Idea behind slogan:
Make every swap count
My idea behind the slogan was to create something simple and easy remember. It's like a small catch phrase people can say easily. I believe it also fits very nicely with the idea of plastic alternatives. 'Make every swap count' implies that small plastic changes can make a great affect on the world.
Idea behind website pictures:
In every picture I tried to give it that soft tone to match with the website aesthetic. I turned the highlights down, I turned the shadows up, whites down and blacks up. It made the colors more on the pastel and on a soft vibrent tone. I used lightroom to edit most of my pictures and photoshop for better inhancement.
Idea behind merch:
For my merch, I wanted to create a small illustration which is straight forward and easy to understand. I added the logo of the company as well for people to recognize it easily. I find merch is a great way of sharing the message. It's one step forward to publicizing something even more.
On the small illustration you can see all the plastic items on the left and the plastic free items on the right. I believe its pretty straight forward. I also decided to include the slogan in the illustration for people to get the message quicker. I used at home items like; scissors, paper, an iron, cling film, backing sheet and of cours a tote bag and a shirt to print on.
I used illustrator to make the illustration.
I did have a few difficulties in making the drawing. I went through many ideas until I finally settled on the current one.
Idea behind posters:
When I was making these posters, I had in mind that I wanted these posters to be placed inside grocery stores. I wanted them to be straight to the point and easy to understand - even for kids. I - again - made the plastic items on the left and the plastic free items on the right. Made my main point clear that I'm bringing awareness to how the world will be affected by every small swap the viewer makes. I used illustrator to make the posters.
The illustrations:
I wanted to create small illustrations that went well with the website. Including colors, shapes and placement. The pastel colors really had a good connection with the photos. I used illustrator to make them. I used illustrtor to make the drawings.
These small drawings were also inspired from a website called PlasticFreeJuly. I loved the harmony the colors had with each other and the little illustrations seemed to fit perfectly in the site.
The video
During the making of the video I wanted to tell people and show them how there is a problem with plastic but as well show them a solution to the problem. I represented this by a short clip of me comparing the plastic object with the plastic free object. I wanted the video to be minimalistic like the website. I used the same colors as well. I wanted to tell a story without a voice over so it seems 'chill' and something people can watch without feeling too much guilt. Small changes can do so much to the world, and that was my main objective. I also created a story board and script before making the video to give myself a visual reference. I used premier pro to make the video. I did have to go back and change the video many times (which you can find each video on youtube). You can see the evolution. I was inspired by the youtube channel 'peaceful cuisine'. They make calming and simple videos like this one.
Why I added social media accounts and a Qr code (etc):
The idea behind the social media platforms was to create and publicize this website and message through different ways. I chose social media because now a days everyone is online. It is easier to scroll by something and learn 1 or 2 things in a short period of time. I made the QR code for people to be able to share this website easily. QR codes are also really easy to stick anywhere which is practical for publicity purposes. I used a site called " QR code generator" to make the code.
Idea behind the site
My main goal for this website was to inform people about what is happening in the world from plastic and how people can make smart changes by finding good plastic alternatives. I spent a lot of time working on this website since I wanted it to be short and kind of straight forward. I used light toned colors since I didnt want things to be all dark because theres always hope and light at the end of the tunnel. I felt that pastel colors really fit well with website and personally its my favorite genre of colors. In the making of this project I used the following platforms; photoshop, illustrator, lightroom and premier pro. One of the websites I really got inspired by was PlasticFreeJuly. I loved the templates and color palette it used.
